Lori and I have lived with the carpet that was installed when we bought the house for six years. We decided we wanted to replace it. So off to Home Depot we went. We found this new fake hard wood flooring called Allure made by Traffic Master. Its a plastic plank floating type of flooring that uses adhesive to stick itself together.
I was a little suspicious about it at first, but after reading some reviews and talking to others that have used it, I figured we could try it.
So, we started moving all of the furniture out.
This is what the old carpet looked like. It had a couple stains and the cat
has torn it up in spots.
It didn't take long to cut up the old carpet and haul it out. When we pulled
it we found some suprises. I think the previous owners had dogs, we found two
spots that had a strong odor. pulled all of the tack board, vacumed up the scraps,
and finally mapped the old told floor. We left the old tile floor in place and
only patched a couple places where the tile was broken.
Installing the new floor took longer then I expected. Each plank needed to be
trimmed on each end, and because of the adhesive, you had to be really carefull
which end of the blank you trimmed.
We were tired and forgot to take a picture after we got done
with the floor
So here is a picture after the floor and trim done, and all of the furniture
moved back in. I am still trimming up the hallway so the saw horses are still
in the living room.
This what the hallway looks like.
All trimmed up, the only thing left to do is to put the conversion plates on
the doorways
Overall, the project took three full days. If you plan on doing this, I reccomend doing it over a three day weekend. Two of those days I was absolutely exhausted.
The flooring cost us just over $500 and then another $150 in trim and various other parts and pieces.
