To build the shed, I needed a couple tools.
So I sweet talked my wife into letting me get them. I needed:

• Framing nail gun - to nail all of the framing together, I am terrible with a hammer pounding nails
• Circular saw - This is a required tool, though not my favorite, I used this saw for almost every step of building the shed.
• Miter saw - Cuts 2X4's straight, everytime
• Roofing nail gun - I once helped my father install a roof, pounding every nail by hand. Never again! I purchased a roofing nail gun years ago, and still have it
• Air compressor - To run the nail guns, I had to have an air compressor. I have a Porter Cable pancake compressor, it is pretty loud when it runs but worked great for me. The only problem I had with it was it tripped the breaker when I was doing the shear wall nailing (it was running almost constantly)
• Sawzall - not required, but was handy a couple of times when having to cut boards in tight spaces

And some other small hand tools. Yes I could have built it without these tools, but they are very helpfull. I already had a table saw, circular saw, and an air compressor. Along with levels, squares, and numerous other hand tools.

I also rented some equipment, including:

• Excavator to dig the foundation. This proved to be very helpfull due to some of my rocky soil.
• Powered Concrete Buggy to haul the concrete from the street corner to the back yard. Originally we were going to do this with wheelbarrows, I am so thankfull I didn't
• Skid steer - After the framing was done, I had to do some excavation of my grade, I left piles of dirt around the shed that had to be moved. So I rented a skidsteer to move some material.

I don't like renting equipment, because it is expensive and I prefer to own my own equipment, lots cheaper to run my own equipment. But when you compare, digging the foundation, I did it in one day with the excavator. Used 7.5 hours on the hour meter. If I dug it by hand ... I would bet it would take me a week or more. On the concrete buggy, I originally planned on using wheelbarrows and six guys to haul 6 yards of concrete to the back yard. I am so glad I rented this thing, it did all the work so the crew could work on finishing the concrete. Not to menchion we were all pretty wore out just doing that.
On the skid steer, long story short I had to move about 6 inches of material about 30 feet, and it had a bunch of rocks in it. I didn't want to do this by hand, so I called my brother and rented a skid steer to do the work. We had all of the material moved within a couple of hours.
